OVERVIEW:
The journal disseminates research findings in the following areas:
  • The causes, conduct and consequences of major global conflicts, as well as the campaigns and battles in which the Romanian Army took part, and the insights that may be derived from them;
  • The evolution of military institutions and structures, including initiatives to reform and modernise the armed forces.
  • Military strategy, tactics and doctrine: analyses of military theories and their practical application in geopolitical contexts.
  • Military figures: biographies of leading Romanian and international military figures, military decision-making and leadership;
  • Alliances, geopolitics and military diplomacy: the strategic implications of alliances, the evolution of politico-military relations, and war as an instrument of policy;
  • Military-society relations: the social and cultural impact of war; the relations of civilians and the armed forces; propaganda, morale and the psychology of war;
  • Armaments, equipment and military technology: the evolution of weapons and military equipment, as well as technological innovation;
  • War memorialisation: museums, memorials, commemorative traditions and practices, and remembrance of the fallen.
The Editorial Board brings together leading figures in Romanian and international historiography, affiliated with distinguished research and higher-education institutions in Romania and abroad.
The journal publishes studies and articles authored by established specialists as well as early-career researchers of considerable promise. Its contributions offer a wealth of information, much of it previously unpublished and derived from original research. They are accompanied by English-language abstracts; and are presented in an attractive visual format, with appropriate illustrations. Each issue is therefore eagerly anticipated by readers.

Review of Military History has developed significant international cooperation through the publication of numerous studies by researchers from Belgium, Bulgaria, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Israel, the Republic of Moldova, Serbia, Sweden, Türkiye and other countries, as well as through joint special issues. These include:
  1. A Romanian–Greek special issue, featuring studies by Romanian and Greek researchers in French and English, entitled Romanians, Greeks and the Eastern Question, launched at the International Congress of Military History in Athens in 2001;
  2. An English-language special issue, War, Military and Media from Gutenberg to Today, launched at the International Congress of Military History held in Bucharest in August 2003;
  3. A Romanian–French special issue featuring studies by Romanian and French researchers, Romanian–French Politico-Military Relations through the Centuries (2006);
  4. A Romanian–Greek special issue, Black Sea, Romania and Greece (2008);
  5. A special issue, Ninety Years since the End of the First World War, prepared jointly by researchers from Germany, France and Romania (2008);
